The BECK WOMEN’S
INSTITUTE
In the absence of Aleathia
and Ruth, Gill opened the meeting and Jennifer read the Minutes of the
August meeting.
Our committee had ‘done
us proud’ by getting a substitute speaker in the form of Clare Hill.
Clare is an archaeologist
and lives in Sparham. She showed us slides taken in the 1960’s when
she spent several summers in the Lonistan area of Iran. We found
she made a ‘dig’ sound extremely interesting, as were the slides showing
foundations, parts of walls and even doorways of large houses, built around
900BC. We also got splendid views of the Zagros Mountains and gained
an impression of what it felt like to climb the zig-zag paths to get to
the next valley!
The Nomads, Clare and her
fellow archaeologists travelled with, were very colourful and hospitable
people and it was fascinating to hear stories of their way of life.
A most interesting and entertaining
talk.
Janet won the raffle.
Single stem flower: 1st Mary, 2nd Audrey.
The exhibition next month
is a Small Foreign Object and our speaker’s subject is Boadica.
Hope to see you all on 10th
October, 7.30pm in the Old school Room, Sparham.
