REEPHAM
AND DISTRICT ROTARY
The Club had a very successful day at the
Aylsham Show Art tent, having a
record number of pictures and making nearly
£2,000 for local charities.
Monies raised by last year's President,
Robert Briggs, have now been
presented to his chosen charities.
£2,250 was given to the Reepham Patient
Care Fund to help buy Reepham Rover 3.
The East Anglian Children's Hospice
were presented with £1,575 and the
same sum was given to the charity MIND.
In addition to these charities several
thousand pounds was raised for the
Tsunami appeal earlier in the year.
.
We have now heard from the Whitwell Hall
Trustees confirming further funds
are now available for us to continue with
our building project of toilet and
shower block at Whitwell Hall. The
building is now roofed in all ready for
fixing out.

Our October meeting was opened by Aleathia
who introduced our guest speaker, Keith Leesmith. His subject was Boudica
and, using a flip chart, he took us through the centuries, starting around
2000 BC.
Looking at the chart we saw that the Kingdom
of the Iceni covered Norfolk, the northern part of Suffolk and part of
the Fens. Boudica's husband Prasutagus, King of the Iceni, died in 60 AD
and the Romans then violently took possession of the whole territory.
After being roughly treated, Boudica marched
on Colchester with the nation of the Iceni behind her. On they went to
London and eventually to St. Albans where history tells us they were heavily
defeated.
A very interesting and information talk.
Keith then judged the exhibit. 1st Mary,
2nd Margaret Peachment. The raffle was won by Sheila.
We have our Annual Meeting next month
- Monday 14th November and we look forward to meeting our W.I. Advisor,
Janet Parker. The Exhibition is a Short Original Poem. So - hope to see
you all - 7.30 p.m. Old School Room, Sparham,. New members always welcome.
Mary Humphrey.
