LETTERS
The
Anti-Hunting Law & Dog Walkers
From 18th February 2005,
under new Government Legislation , it will be an offence for owners of
dogs to allow them to chase any wild mammal [other than a rat or rabbit]
on any property.
It will also be an offence
to allow dogs [whether on a lead or not] to sniff along a scent trail left
by any wild mammals [except as above] on any property.
The owners of a property
[and/or it's manager] will be committing an offence if they allow dog owners
to enter and/or use it for any of the above activities.
'PENALTY [Applicable to
person owning or walking dog and to landowner/tenant]: Maximum fine of
£5,000 and confiscation and destruction or disposal of all/any dogs
committing an offence.
Note. Guide dogs for the
blind are not exempt from this law.
Dog owners are probably unaware
that these draconian penalties are a result of the Government's recent
anti-hunting law. It follows that the local landowners ask you to
co-operate in every way in keeping dogs under total control at all times.

A
Response to the above
Dear Editor
I don't usual find myself
writing in response to letters I have read in the Reeves Tale but I feel
compelled to do so after reading the letter sent in to you by D.Q.G. of
Bawdeswell. The more I read it ,the more it incensed me.I am not going to
go into great details over what was wrong with the content of the letter
but only to say that if D.Q.G. was trying to do a bit of scaremongering
they have probably succeeded. It is not illegal for dogs to chase
it is illegal for them to HUNT and it is not illegal for a dog to follow
a scent trail either. If you are a landowner/propertyowner you are only
committing an offence if you knowing allow HUNTING on your land. The full
Hunting Law, for anyone who wants to know the TRUE facts, can be found
on the HMSO website.
So to all dog owners please
ignore D.Q.G. 's letter , he/she are obviously very bitter about the new
Anti-Hunting Law, and think that the only way to get back at the Government
is to scare people into thinking that they are breaking the law when actually
they are not.
Yours
Sara Allen, Kerdiston
Litter
A concerning matter has
been happening in Old Fakenham Road, Foxley. Over the last couple
of months a total of 24 Liebfraumilch 1 1/2 litre size wine bottles have
been found thrown onto the side of the road. Usually 3 at a time appear.
They are always in the same place - just past the 20 mile speed sign on
the left hand side going down the road. More recently bags of half
eaten pies are also being thrown onto the same place.
PLEASE STOP IT WHOEVER YOU
ARE. There are places such as bottle banks around for these type
of bottles. Even if you are a secret drinker/s please depose of them
in the correct manner and think of the Countryside!
Name & address supplied,
Ed.
Handicrafts
Can you please let me know
if you can make or donate an item or items for the proposed Crafts and
Produce stall at the Bawdeswell Village Fete in June? A decision
will be made at the next committee meeting on 15th March as to whether
this stall will be viable.
Please contact Sandi on
688268. Many thanks.
S .T. Bawdeswell.
