LETTERS

From John & Mary Fletcher, Foxley

We approached our first Tuesday Open Garden Day in some trepidation. With such a long dry spell would there be even much to see; would anyone come?

However, Tuesday May 1st   was a most encouraging start to our venture. With the help of friends to greet visitors (whilst painlessly relieving them of £1.50 entrance money), with wall-to-wall sunshine and a profusion of Spring blossom; with plenty of seats to enjoy a 'cuppa' and a good mardle the day was enjoyed by visitors and helpers alike.

We appreciate the support of everyone who came, especially that of our volunteer helpers. We are all looking forward to sharing the next open day on Tuesday, 5th June.

From Gordon Bambridge  6th May 2006

I do thank all of you who turned out to vote especially those who voted for me, and of course my opponent, without who there would not have been an election, but I do emphasise, as I did last time, that I will represent the views of all of the members of the ward, whether you voted for or against me or indeed did not vote at all.

Of course I do not know yet what particular tasks I will have in the new Council. For the last four years I have represented Breckland members with IT, the Environment, Member Training, and Scrutiny. It is normal for these to be shuffled regularly. As a ward member I am happy to serve wherever I can.

Most of you will know that I have fairly represented your views during the last four years, and I will continue to do so. One thing my opponent said was raised at the door, although not to me, is the lack of a newsletter. What I propose is to offer a resume of what’s going on in Breckland with a non-political stance for them to print or not as they chose. I also emphasise that I am always available directly to ward members, plus I usually attend Parish Meetings, and, if informed, events whenever I can.

During the last month I have been involved in the formation of the Wensum Valley Trust, which is a charity that will seek to help to protect this fantastic river that flows through most of our ward. I also attended the protest meeting at Lenwade to hear the views of those present. I met there several members from each of the parishes in the ward among the over 200 who attended. Wherever you stand on this issue then please make sure that the members of Norfolk County Council Planning committee hear from you. Details on the website or from the reception desk at County Hall by telephone or a visit. I have also attended meetings of the Full Council and the Scrutiny Commission of which I am a member. I have also knocked on about 95% of the doors in the ward, although of course many of you were out at the time. I do thank my wife and daughter who delivered some leaflets for me, and Councillor Jill Ball who canvassed for me in part of the ward. During the next month each of the parish councils will meet with many new members elected or co-opted, I hope that you will seek to attend these meetings if you can; this is the basis of our democracy and we should all join together to ensure that we do not lose them to other tiers of government. as has been suggested if parishes do not have an active council..

From Ruth Waller (Dog Owner) Foxley

Regarding the letter on Dog Fouling in Foxley on Mill Road and Old Fakenham Road, it is not just holidaymakers but people in the village who do not clear up after their dogs.  If it was just holidaymakers, the problem would not be  ongoing  all year round.  If you see anyone, just report them to the Dog Warden at Breckland  (01362 656870). So watch out, clear up after your dogs.  You never know who is watching.  Otherwise be named and shamed.  RW
