FOXLEY SOCIAL CLUB

On Wednesday afternoon 2nd May, we had Tamara Goulding along to tell us about her interest in lace making.  She titled her talk ‘Travels with my Lace Pillow.’ The travels refer to her journeys all over Europe, meeting and exchanging techniques with others who were enthusiastic and skilled in this ancient craft.  We soon realised, by the many examples that she showed us, that lace making is not now simply a quaint pastime: it is now definitely an art form---and in many cases an art form at the very cutting edge!  We came expecting to see the usual cuffs and collars and of course the de rigueur tea-pot stand.  Not so.  What we saw were quite extraordinary: two dimensional pictures in vibrant colours and unbelievably fine detail; but still more fascinating were three dimensional---yes, three dimensional---figures made with such intricacy that they made a spider’s web seem clumsy!

On reflection, it is a wonderful thought that the old Arts and Craft Movement is still very much alive and well, still being urged on by quite a few very talented people like Tamara Goulding.

FOXLEY VILLAGE HALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Would like to encourage all Foxley residents to use the waste paper bank outside the village hall. The money collected from the regular emptying of this bank is used for the continual improvement and maintenance of the hall.

Thank you very much  for your help.
