Foxley Village Hall Management Committee

Just to let you know…….

The Management Committee has experienced a very busy and successful year, interspersed with periods of sadness.  Our Secretary, Beryl Mayes, passed away on 27th September.  Beryl was a good friend; a committed member of the committee, and her death was, and still is, felt very deeply by everyone who knew her.

Bill Potter retired as Secretary in May 2005 after many, many years of committed service.  Bill was a hard working and efficient secretary.  A lunch, attended by past and present committee members, was held at Old Hall Farmhouse and a gift presented to Edie and Bill to express appreciation.

Gladys Dewing, our Treasurer, will be leaving the village soon and with regret, her resignation from the committee was accepted on 27th April.  Gladys has been so much more than a Treasurer, she has dealt with bookings and cared for the Village Hall as if it were their own property, as has Robert, her husband.  Their enthusiasm and dedication will be a very difficult act to follow and it is hoped they will enjoy participating in future activities in FVH, free of responsibility.

The committee is very pleased Helen Foulger has agreed to take over the role of Secretary and Stevie Pritchard has agreed to be our new Treasurer.

John Driver, Ruth Waller and Ruth Whitmore welcome them both and look forward to a successful future with them.

It would be ideal if one other member could be recruited to the committee and this will be worked on during the next few months.

Major Projects

After a lengthy period of negotiation, the extension to the rear of the village Hall will be commenced in May.  All legal work is completed and grants from BIFFA and NORFOLK RURAL COMMUNITY COUNCIL have been secured.  The committee is very grateful to Pam & Peter Egmore, and members of the Parish Council for their invaluable support. Gratitude is also expressed to residents and friends who have kindly supported the successful Buy-a-Brick Scheme. The end date for the scheme has been extended to 31st August to enable more people to participate.

Future Works & General Maintenance

There are plans in the pipeline for future works, to ensure the hall continues to be a well- maintained meeting place for the Foxley community, for all activities and occasions. General maintenance is completed on a weekly basis.

Foxley Village Hall  Buy-a–Brick Scheme

The Scheme has now been running for one year and, so far has raised the magnificent sum of £1,100, towards the construction of an extension to store equipment currently taking up much needed space in the hall. Thank you to everyone who has taken part.

The committee is pleased to inform you that BIFFA and NORFOLK RURAL COMMUNITY COUNCIL will be supporting this project and construction will commence in May.

The end date for the Buy-a-Brick Scheme will be 31st August, so if there is anyone who would like to participate and have their name listed on the PERMANENT RECOGNITION BOARD in the Village Hall, details of the scheme are given below:

One brick costs a minimum of £10.  A brick can be purchased by (a) an individual, (b) for an individual (maybe a grandchild, a friend or ‘in memory of”), (c) a family, (d) a group of people (e) a visitor from far and wide.

At the point of sale, details of the donor will be written in an OFFICIAL REGISTER.   A NUMBERED RECEIPT will be issued and a PROGRESS MARKER placed on the PICTORIAL BRICK WALL.  Within a month of the sale, an OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE will be sent to the donor.

As soon as possible after the work to the extension, and cessation of the scheme on 31st August, a PERMANENT RECOGNITION BOARD will be installed in the Village Hall listing each and every donor to the scheme.

Should you wish to participate before the scheme ends,

please contact: Ruth Whitmore, Old Hall Farmhouse,

FOXLEY VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Would like to encourage all Foxley residents to use the waste paper bank outside the village hall. The money collected from the regular emptying of this bank is used for the continual improvement and maintenance of the hall.

Thank you very much  for your help
