FOXLEY BOWLS CLUB
At our last AGM changes to our Committee were
effected. Gladys Dewing resigned as Treasurer and Carole Mears, our
present Secretary. was also appointed Treasurer. Richard Johnson was also
appointed to the Committee. The Committee now consists of Gordon
Whitmore, Chairman, Robert Dewing, Captain, Carole Mears,
Secretary and Treasurer, Wendy Wilkinson, Competition Secretary and
Richard Johnson. Gladys and her family are expecting to move away from
the Village (not too far). Gladys has been our Treasurer since the
inception of the present Club and has carried out these duties in her usual
impeccable way. She has also been involved in many other aspects of the
Club, all of which have been invaluable in the growth of the Club. We all thank
her for everything she has done and wish her well for the future.
The club meets each Monday evening in the Village
Hall. On Friday evenings members wishing to practice or come along for a
'roll up' are welcome. We do have a limited number of vacancies for membership,
and if anyone is interested in learning to play short mat bowls, or to know
more about our Club please contact Carole, our Secretary, (Tel:01362 688567) or
any one of the committee members with a view to coming along on a Friday
evening or initially at another time which could be mutually agreed.
Our inter club competitions are running well; in recent
months a number of our members have also competed in various County
competitions etc held at Roundwood Club at Taverham. In addition to our friendly social bowling
on Monday evenings we also play friendly matches, both home and away, against
other local clubs from time to time.
We aim to provide this facility for people of any age in our
Village and the surrounding area. Current members are from Foxley, Bawdeswell and Guist.
We have recently purchased another new Mat which means we
now have 3 modern Mats of the same quality.
We are planning to hold a Bingo evening in the Village Hall
in November. This will be a fund raising event for Charity, Breast
Cancer, and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible to
support this well worth cause. Further details will be advertised nearer the
time.
