We have had a busy month: Our field trip to East Norfolk was a good days birding. Starting at Horsey Mill we walked along the dyke bordering Breydon Marshes. We saw Marsh Harriers, a Black Redstart, several Cranes and the splendid sight of a Hen Harrier flying low over the marshland. Then on to Horsey Gap where several Stonechats were seen (so called because their alarm call sounds like two stones being knocked together). Finally, for the stout of heart (and feet) on to the wetland habitat at Hickling Broad Nature Reserve where we spent the afternoon and our keen-eyed experts spotted a Red-crested Pochard. Naturally the weather was brilliant and a good time was had by all. Later in the month we walked over Copthorpe Common and Stiffkey Marshes, seeing Greenshank, Whitethroats and Little Egrets.

At our indoor meeting, we held the 2nd AGM and were delighted to recruit three new members to our hard working committee. This was followed by an exceptionally good  presentation of ‘Nature’s Year in Norfolk’ by David Brooks who took us month by month through a year in Norfolk in pictures.

Two outdoor meetings in June: A bird race, for teams of two to four members. Starting at any time and anywhere in the Wensum Valley after 6 pm on Saturday 4th June. Finishing by 6 pm on Sunday the 5th  at the Bridge Inn, Lenwade. The second event is a Nightjars Evening at Dersingham on Thursday 16th. Further details as they become available from me or Ray on 01603- 872709.

We are happy to see new faces at these events, we can provide binoculars.
