The Chelsea Flower Show Congratulations to Sue Lilwall for her success once again at the Chelsea Flower Show this year! Not only was it an honour to be asked to take part, but marvellous to come away with a Silver Grenfell award for the second time. Sue and her friend Maggie Morton , representing the Aylsham & District Flower Club, created a floral arrangement in the Class with the theme The Subtle Alchemist. Not an easy one to do. We are very proud of you, Sue. Editor |
Foxley Bowls Club On Sunday 11 June 2006 the Club held a surprise lunch in Foxley Village Hall for Gladys and Robert Dewing, to recognise what they have done for the Bowls Club since it was formed about 5 years ago. Gladys and Robert are now moving away from the Village, however, Robert will continue as Captain of the Club. Only one of the Members was unable to be present and a traditional Sunday lunch, with some superb deserts was thoroughly enjoyed by all 28 people present. GSW
Sewer Problems Those of you living in Hall Road, Paradise Road and Two Fields Way will have received a letter from the chairman of Bawdeswell Parish Council about the recurring problems with the sewerage overflowing. Breckland have sorted the adoption of the Hall Road drains – see Bawdeswell Parish Council notes on page 16.
Over the thirty years that your editor has lived in Paradise Lane he has had to call Anglian Water out three or four times a year and he has got to know them quite well! They have pulled out legs of chairs, bits of prams and an amazing variety of the most unlikely things you would expect people to put down their drains. Residents must have lifted their manhole covers in many cases to dispose of the objects. So it is not always the fault of the drains!
But more often than not it has been congealed fat blocking the junction where the sewer from these roads joins the main sewer passing Paradise Lane. So as well as not putting bulky and non soluble items into the system, you can help by not pouring fat down the drains. And no more chair legs please!
Anglian Water will give you a free container to pour fat into that you can hang up for the birds in your garden. Editor.
