FOXLEY PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL met at The Elms’ courtesy of Hugh & Linda Rose on Thursday 9th June. John Harvey (Churchwarden) was in the chair and Rev.David Head said a prayer to ask for guidance in our discussions and decisions. The treasurer reported a reasonably healthy balance at the bank, as always bearing in mind future restoration costs and the big increase in Parish Share (Foxley’s contribution to the Mission & Ministry of the Church; which means we now pay £5175 per annum.) Hopefully, “Foxley in Flower” will boost the Fabric Fund and he also urged members to find riders to join the Annual Church Cycle Ride in September. This is in aid of the excellent work of Norfolk Churches Trust, but St.Thomas’ would receive back from them half the sponsorship money raised. He also said that the ride is great fun and most interesting to explore the local lanes and villages, let alone the churches and to meet people along the way. Another option is to walk around the Norwich churches.

The PCC had recently received a gift from Mrs.Nan Garrod in gratitude for her long connection with St.Thomas’, to pay for the refurbishment of the four lights in the Chancel. At the Rector’s suggestion it was decided to research the possibility of an “In Memoriam” book to record gifts to the church, both in memory of loved ones and for other reasons.

The Rev. Head raised some issues of importance to all the parishes in his care. It was  proposed to form a Ministry Team for each parish and for the whole benefice to assist in services and pastoral work. The Service Rota was discussed; it was agreed that Foxley’s pattern should remain as it is, but this did not exclude the possibility for an updated format in the future.

Members were all busy preparing for the “Foxley in Flower” day (the success or otherwise, of which will already be known to readers of this magazine). It was not thought detrimental that parts of the pews and woodwork might be missing or in process of renovation. After all, the church’s share of the proceeds of the “Day” are to be used to help pay for the work! Nigel Hatch would be on hand to answer questions and would produce an explanatory notice. Notwithstanding the disruption, St.Thomas’ would be at its most inviting with a “Tapestry” of floral arrangements and a display of the new hassocks organised by Monica Hatch.
