The long awaited rewiring of the church commenced
at the beginning of June and one or two burnt out circuits were discovered
plus two skirting board fixings right
through a bunch of cables, the carpenter at the building of the church in
1955 having drilled into a metal pipe behind the plaster. These hidden horrors have
strengthened our decision to carry out the rewiring! Our thanks to the Friends for making this
possible. We had
the wedding on 28 May of Mark John Drake and Lynne Joyce Goupillot. The
ceremony was conducted by the Rector the Revd David Head and the organist was
Celia Joice. Our thanks to Lynne for the flower arrangements and
for leaving them in the church, and our best wishes to them both. On 30th July we are looking forward to our Anniversary
Concert. The guest this year
is Dr Gerald Gifford. He will be bringing along a Chamber
Organ and a Harpsicord and playing a selection of Georgian Delights. He is an accomplished musician and a
very good speaker so it promises to be an entertaining evening. There will be a couple of small marquees outside
the church to accommodate the wine bar and the buffet supper. Your first
glass is included with the supper. Tickets, costing £12.50 are available from the
Friends of the Church or Tel: 688499. In August we are going to change our Service
pattern to make Church on Sunday at the regular fixed time of 10am. For many years we have had to think
hard about which Sunday in the month it is and try and work out what time the
service will be. No excuse now! The form of services has not been decided, though
it does look as if the first Sunday of the month will be Communion and the
rest of the Sunday services will be non-communion ones. The present mid-week Communion on the
last Wednesday of the month might be changed to the middle of the month if
that suits people better. It has
even been suggested that one Sunday a month we meet in the Village Hall
instead of the church. Your
comments please. Robin Taylor, churchwarden.
