BAWDESWELL VILLAGE HALL

A meeting of interested people took place on 4th December to discuss the future development of the hall and Recreation Ground.
Subjects discussed ranged from the current site, whether there was a better alternative, to what would be ideal in what it provided for the community, to whether it would be better to encourage a commercial concern to run it.
It was decided to visit all the surrounding village halls and commercially run facilities nearby  and develop a plan based on what we thought best and most practical for our village.
Alex Kirby has now drawn up a plan of action for these visits and recording the findings.
A meeting is due to take place on  Saturday 22nd January with Breckland Council
development officers talking about funding etc.
We will give a full update in the March Reeve’s Tale.

WASTE PAPER BANK

Would like to encourage all residents to use the waste paper and bottle banks outside the village hall. The money collected from the regular emptying of these banks is used for the continual improvement and maintenance of the hall.

Thank you very much
for your help.

REEPHAM & DISTRICT ROTARY CLUB

Club members organised the erection of the Christmas tree in Reepham market
place - bigger and better than ever.  It was arranged by Robert Buxton who
selected the fine tree from the National Trust woods at Blickling.

11 students from Reepham High School competed for the Tony Poole Memorial
Trophy and the winner this year was Tom Barwick.  The winner was determined
by the quality of a piece of Geography GCSE course work on the subject of
"Sustainability". The runners-up were Elizabeth Jobbins and Kerry Wright.

The Club is to receive £2,000 from the Aylsham Show Committee.  This was for
their hard work at the Art Tent and the monies will be given to our Rotary
charities.  A small contingent of members is hoping to attend the Delden
Borne Rotary Club in Holland in January to help them celebrate their
anniversary.

BECK WI

Illness and holidays meant that a smaller number than usual attended our first meeting of the year. However, that did not detract from the enjoyment of the evening when John Clifton took over and showed us some really beautiful slides of the Shetland Isles.
We were treated to views of glorious land and seascapes, isolated cottages, calm - then dramatic seas, followed by close-ups of a red-necked phalarope, puffins, hundreds of gannets, black guillemots, great and artic skuas, razorbills and many more distinctive seabirds.
A few shots then of unexpected visitors to Shetland - a long eared owl and a bullfinch, finishing with slides showing the small seemingly delicate flowers which manage to survive in most inhospitable looking surroundings. Indeed, an extremely interesting hour.
In the absence of Ruth, the November minutes were read by Jennifer and Aleathia told us of forthcoming events.
The exhibition - wildlife photo - was won by Janet, 2nd Ruth Clarke. Zillah won the raffle.
Next meeting: Monday 14th February in Sparham's Old School Room at 7.30pm and new members are always welcome. The exhibit is an old postcard.
