All Saint’s
Church, Bawdeswell
There are many Christmas services
ranging from an Advent Carols Service on 3rd December to the GiG on Christmas morning.
Do please look at the list of services to find out what’s on and where
not only at Bawdeswell but throughout the Benefice. The church heating has just been repaired so
there will be a
warm welcome in more ways than one.
The local British Legion Remembrance
Day Service was held in Bawdeswell on Sunday 12 November. People from all six parishes in our Benefice
attended. We thank the village hall for
the loan of extra chairs.
The names of the fallen in both
World Wars were read out during the Act of Remembrance. The Last Post and Reveille were sounded.
The Rector David Head led the service and James Lilwall played the
organ.
£330 was collected for the British
Legion.
St Thomas’s
Church, Foxley
Foxley people, old and new, gathered at
the Village Hall on Saturday 28th October, for a talk by Dr.Ian Keymer, in aid of Church
Funds. As those who had read the preliminary invitation will remember, Ian Keymer spent most of his childhood in Foxley
from the 1920’s and, after military service, qualified as a vet. In the first
part of his talk he gave an entertaining account of village life in Foxley, his father’s grocery business, the prevailing
poverty during the recession years and lack of amenities – only the main road
was metalled, no mains water or electricity – and quirky local characters!
In the second half, he gave us some
glimpses of his professional life as a pathologist, dealing with exotic animals
at London Zoo and abroad. It seems to have been a gory and often thoroughly
disagreeable job, but fascinating, highly technical and demanding.
Afterwards, we enjoyed wine and
refreshments and looked at a series of photographs of folk and the locality and
chatted about the olden days. It was nice to welcome Tony and Christine Rushbrook, as they started life as residents of Glebe House
in W.Foxley. We hope they will spend many happy years
in our midst.
Dr.Keymer kindly waived his usual fee,
resulting in £397 being raised for the cause. It was a most enjoyable evening,
everyone agreed.
We now look forward to our Carol
Service on Sunday 17th December at 4.30pm, and Christmas Day Service at 10.30 am.
