REEPHAM & DISTRICT ROTARY

The club has had some extremely interesting meetings over recent weeks. Members and wives visited the Eastern Anglian Air Ambulance at Norwich airport where last year's Vice President Ivan Tubby presented a cheque for £7,000 to Peter Mendham.  This was the main charity for Ivan's year as President.  It is the largest sum the club has ever raised and certainly went to a very good cause.

We have also visited the recycling centre at Costessey, which was organised by Rotarian Paul Smith.  It was a very interesting evening and it was brought home to
us all just how important it is to recycle our rubbish.

At a recent meeting the club gave a Paul Harris fellowship to the Reverend Gus Jones.  Gus has done a tremendous amount both for Rotary and other charities in his 80 plus years.  He originally joined Wembley Rotary club in 1966 and became their President in 1973.  He and his wife Muriel moved to Norfolk in 1987, originally joined Aylsham Rotary club and then had a 'free' transfer to Reepham and is still an honorary member of the club.  He is a great man and well deserves the award.

The club made a record amount of money at the Aylsham Show art tent.  Over £1,500 was raised despite the appalling weather.  A large number of pictures were displayed this year, which was mainly down to the efforts of Rotarian= David Baxter, who was in charge.

THE BECK WI
Our President, Aleathia, welcomed members to the Beck's Annual Meeting on 8th November. Ruth read the Minutes of last year's Annual Meeting and also the Annual Report.
Aleathia thanked committee members for their valuable help throughout the year, mentioning those who had helped in any way. She then spoke briefly on the financial position and had a draft Balance Sheet for all to see. Forthcoming events were discussed, including our Christmas DInner on Monday 13th December - therefore no meeting on that date.
A new but smaller committee was then elected - Aleathia, Ruth, Gill and Jennifer.
The evening ended with a short but lively Beetle Drive. The winner was Margaret Pointer.
Our first meeting in 2005 will be on Monday January 10th at 7.30 pm. in Sparham's Old School Room.
Mary Humphrey.
