WENSUM VALLEY BIRDWATCHING SOCIETY

We are having a Christmas party on the 16th of December at Lenwade Village Hall. All are welcome but please bring your own refreshments.

Another well attended evening as we heard Malcolm Rains, using our newly acquired projection equipment, talk about the birds of China when he re-visited a major migration site 160 Km east of Bejing after a period of ten years.

Birds to look out for this month -  among the list provided by our bird recorder are:-  Redwing, Fieldfare, Brambling, Siskin, Redpoll and also in December look out for the ‘turkularis-bootiful’ which will be appearing in large quantities toward the end of the month.

We are out and about on the 4th of December. David Pelling is taking us to  Lynford Arboretum. We start from Waitrose (Safeway) car park, Swaffham at 9.30 a.m. Bring stout footwear and a packed lunch.

Best wishes to you all for Christmas and the new year and happy birding.

DEREHAM STAMP CLUB

Are you interested in stamps, postcards, local history, family history etc? Have you an interesting collection? Are you willing to show it to others?  Would you like to meet others with similar interests ?  Then we would like to meet you.

The 'WE' in the above statement is the Dereham & District Stamp Club.  Since 1975 the Club has provided a focal point for philatelists in the local area and at our peak we had over 35 members, but now we are down to 8 and are in danger of disbanding.  But, as Baldrick would say ' We have a cunning plan '.

What we wish to do is expand the remit of the club beyond stamps into other collectables areas.  The reasoning behind this is simple - many of our members not only collect stamps but also postcards, cigarette cards, ornaments, books, bottles, toys etc which are related to their stamp collections or other interests.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 16th December @ 7:30 pm @ Church House (adj Phoenix Hotel) and appropriately the theme for the evening will be:
' The Festive Season '

Members and visitors are invited to bring along a few examples relating (tenuously or directly) to the theme for display and discussion.
