Bawdeswell Post Office
We are all aware of the anticipated. closure of 2500 Post Offices. At this stage nobody knows who will go and when it will happen, and with the redevelopment of Folland Court this has all made my future look very uncertain.
It has been very difficult to keep the Post Office running in Bawdeswell. Everybody will know how cold it has been the past two winters with very little heat.
From day one, I have had to fund the overheads of the day to day running from my own pocket, there has been no help from any other source. With the increase in utilities, I cannot justify the expense of running this Post Office another winter.
Most of my regular customers are aware that I was intending to resign as Postmistress in December, with the view of finishing in March next year. However, following the recent break-in, running costs, and other family commitments, regretfully, and after very careful consideration, I am bringing the date forward six months. The official closing date for the Post Office will be 1pm Wednesday 19th September.
I know this will create difficulties for some of my older customers, for which I apologise, but I would like to thank everybody for their continuous support over the last twelve years.

Bawdeswell Store
Last
month a letter was published in The Reeve’s Tale criticising the changes
that had taken place in our famous village store. This triggered off some verbal abuse for the
unfortunate staff who are not to blame in any way.
McColls
have 1400 shops, but none of them quite like the one they have taken on here.
The
local manager realises this and is doing his best to meet our expectations.
Although
there have been sweeping changes that make the store look like every other McColls outlet, he is trying very hard to meet our wishes
and is continuing to use our previous local
suppliers wherever possible. Something the other stores do not do. He has also managed
to re-introduce the popular DVD Library and got agreement to replace McColl’s standard Checkouts with something more suitable.
Nobody
likes change. If you can’t find something please ask the staff to show you
where it is, and if it is no longer stocked, please ask for Fred the manager
and he will do his very best to help you.
He is on our side.
We
don’t want to loose our store. Do try to
support it.
