BECK WI

Aleathia opened our meeting on 9th July by welcoming members, 3 guests and our speaker, Dr. Stephen Ashworth.

Stephen introduced himself as a lecturer at the U.E.A. in the School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, which is funded by EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council). His talk was illustrated by slides, delightful practical demonstrations and a helpful explanation of Thermosphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere and Troposphere. Some interesting slides showed us the composition of the atmosphere of the Earth compared with Mars and Venus. A competent and entertaining speaker.

After our 'tea break' Aleathia told us of the forthcoming events and Jennifer gave an enthusiastic account of our visit to Houghton on the Hill last month.

The exhibit was won by Gill, 2nd Ruth W. Yvonne won the raffle.

At the meeting next month Trevor Burlingham will be giving us a Victorian Slide Show and the exhibition is to be a Victorian object.

Hope to see you all on Monday 13th August, 7.30 p.m. at Sparham's Old School Room.
