St.Thomas’ Foxley P.C.C.

We shall all remember the blazing heat on “Foxley in Flower” Day, but it was fortuitous for the church, where people could enjoy the floral displays and the appropriate background music in an agreeably cool atmosphere!
The decorations, “A Floral Tapestry”, were in keeping with the splendid display of newly-created hassocks arranged on the altar steps.  Visitors were so impressed with the beautiful original designs (thanks to Monica Hatch, Anne Cormie and Robin Taylor) , and expert workmanship.  On the rails hung the (as yet un-made up) altar kneelers, embroidered  by Monica, depicting the symbols of the church’s patron  St. Thomas the Apostle,  St. Thomas a Beckett, to whom there was dedicated a little Guild chapel where the pulpit now is, and the Saints on the painted screen. These were sponsored by Mrs. Vivienne Marsh in memory of her parents Jack and Phyllis Buxton, stalwarts of Foxley Church for many years.
The flower arrangements were interpretations of the nature of  tapestry and were interestingly varied and eye-catching.  Gladys and Tracey Dewing``s “Foxley”, in orange and yellow flowers,  even featured in the Dereham  and Fakenham Times.!
Our thanks to Nigel Hatch and Nan Garrod who greeted visitors and explained the  work being carried out by Mr. Jo Dawes to various pews and pieces of woodwork.
We are so grateful for our share of the proceeds of the event and to all who helped.  Thanks also to Bill Waller who repaired some crumbling stonework by the porch and to Richard Johnson for his grass- mowing , so that the outside of the church was also fit to be seen!.
