The speaker at our July meeting,
Mrs Rosemarie Jacob, gave a most interesting talk on “The experiences of
a Corset Consultant”. Known by several of her clients as “The Corset
Woman”, she spoke about some amusing, some sad and one or two rather
frightening encounters during her years as a Spirella trained Consultant.
After reading the Minutes
of the June meeting, Ruth highlighted some events on her latest “What’s
On”. Names were taken for the August outing to see Ruddigore at the
Little Theatre in Sheringham, and also for another visit to Caithness Crystal.
The prettiest button exhibit
was won by Margaret Peachment, 2nd was June Edwards. The raffle was
won by Elizabeth Lenton.
The September meeting was
on Monday 9th. Members had been looking forward to seeing Mrs Rosemary
Morton bone a turkey, and although the ‘turkey’ turned out to be a chicken,
we were in no way disappointed. Indeed, it was an extremely interesting
and enlightening demonstration – although it remains to be seen how any
members will get a sharp knife and experiment in the seclusion of their
own kitchens. Thank you very much Rosemary, for sharing your expertise
with us and we all enjoyed the generous slice from a previously boned chicken
you prepared earlier.
All this reminded us of the
WI Exhibition at Pensthorpe from 13th to 22nd September and names were
taken for My Fair Lady at Norwich’s Theatre Royal in January.
The raffle – which this
month was the boned chicken in its foil wrapper – was won by Colleen.
The homemade sweets exhibit was won by Colleen, 2nd Reggie.
Ruddigore at Sheringham
had been very much enjoyed and it was agreed that the cast had put on a
most entertaining show.
The talk in October is on
The Great Hospital, and as always, we welcome new members.

ROTARY
It was with deep regret that
Club members were told of the death of local businessman Pat Pennington.
Pat was one of the instigators
forming the Club back in 1969. He, together with the late Reverend
Bert Alcock worked tirelessly to make sure the Club got up and running.
He led the Club before its charter and it was only down to business and
family pressures that he was unable to be our first President after charter.
He deserved that honour but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
The Club’s sympathies go
out to his family.
