Secretary’s Report.

It was confirmed that the Club held its first meeting on 16th may 2001.  Seventeen organised events plus the usual tea and chat afternoons have taken place.  There have been speakers on a variety of subjects, and trips to places of interest.  Currently, the secretary is requesting numbers for the Theatre Royal’s “Jack & the Beanstalk” by the 20th August, and the Thursford Christmas Show by 8th September.
Members were asked to take turns in organising the fortnightly catering and the ‘Bring & Buy’ sale.
A successful spin-off from the Social Club is the Bowls Club.  It meets every Monday evening, and is attended by eighteen or so members, with fresh faces arriving soon.

Treasurer’s Report.
Gladys Dewing explained the attached accounts and confirmed a balance of £571.91 which is split as follows:  Social Club £465.76,  Bowls Club  £106.15  .
It was agreed that the Bowls Club and the Social Club should each pay the Village Hall a fee of £5.00 each time the hall is used.  Joy Webster asked what was intended for the funds held, feeling it should be used for the good of the members.  It was agreed that providing there was always sufficient money to meet Social Club commitments, then the members would be consulted as to how they wished the residue to be used.
It was proposed and agreed that a £1.00 fee should be charged at normal meetings, and a £2.00 fee when speakers attended.  A discussion took place regarding whether a yearly membership fee should be introduced, but this was agreed to be left to further discussion between Committee and members at a later date.

Bowls Club Report.
Carole Mears read the Bowls report.  It was confirmed that an event will be held once the bowling competitions are completed, to present prizes to the winning members.  Pete Mendham of the East Anglia Air  Ambulance may be asked to do the honours.
